Therapy Dog "Harley"
"Harley", a 3-year old Rhodesian Ridgeback - Lab mix listens to a reader at Dusenberry-River Public Library in Tucson, AZ.

"Read to a Dog" is a program where young children (ages 3-6) read to a certified therapy dog (or service dog) at their local library. Reading to a dog has been proven to improve reading skills because a dog is a non-judgmental listener. Reading to a dog takes the stress away and makes it fun for the children.
Children who read very little usually have poor reading skills. Lots of kids don't like to read because they think it is boring or they think reading is not important. Being literate is very important and not just for a child.
